Types of Resources
Introduction:
All the things present in our environment are called resources. These things are termed as resources only when it has some use and economic value attached to them. These resources are not equally distributed over the earth's surface due to some factors like terrain, climate, and altitude.
Watch this short video by BYJU'S and think about how these resources can be classified into different categories:
We can divide resources into 3 categories that are natural resources, man-made resources, human resources.
Natural resources:
All the resources that we get from nature directly are considered natural resources. These resources are considered as free gifts of nature because we can directly use them without any modifications. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the land we use, all these things can be used directly without any modification. These are free gifts as it is provided by nature to us we don't pay any money while using them.
| Natural resources |
Natural resources are further divided into two resources that are renewable and nonrenewable:
Renewable resources:
These are those resources that get renewed and replenish quickly. The resources like water, air, wind are not affected by human activities and these can be renewed and replenished quickly. But sometimes the resources like water can become exhausted.
Do you think water which is a renewable resource can become an exhaustible resource one day?
Non- Renewable resources:
As the name suggests these are those resources that do not get renewed. The stock of these resources is very limited if we do not use them properly they will get exhausted and it will take 1000 years to get renewed. Coal, Petroleum, natural gas are an example of these.
Think and write your answer in the Chatbox:
Q: look around you and observe how people are using resources nowadays? Is this is the right way or what else we can do in order to use them properly?
Human-made resources:
The name itself suggests that the resources which are made by humans are called human-made resources. In these resources, we used natural substances to convert them into human-made resources.
For example, we used wood to make chairs, Tables, and doors out of it. Technology is also a part of man-made resources.
Look at this picture you can see how different man-made resources are made with the help of natural resources.
Human resources:
First, think about why humans are considered a resource?
Humans are the most important resource because it is the idea, knowledge, and skill of humans that made different resources out of natural resources. We must develop the ideas and skills of humans to use the potential of humans in the right way. Improving the quality of people skills is considered as Human resource development. People themselves are the human resources.
Conclusion :
There are three types of resources that we discussed that is natural, human-made, and human resources. As these resources are not equally distributed we need to use them efficiently and effectively. we need to use these resources very carefully so that we can also use them and our future generation will also be able to use them.
